New Tokyo Olympic board includes women, athletes

AP, Tuesday 18 Mar 2014

Women and former Olympians have been appointed to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics board following criticism of the leadership being dominated by elderly men.

The 34-member board includes seven women, including two Olympians.

Tokyo's Olympic committee, headed by 76-year-old former prime minister Yoshiro Mori, was under scrutiny for the lack of female and young members on the executive board.

Toyota Motor Corp. President Akio Toyoda was named vice chief of the board.

Two-time Olympic women's judo champion Ayumi Tanimoto and hammer gold medalist Koji Murofushi are among the board members.
