Ramy Ashour beat fellow Egyptian Mohamed El-Shorbagy to win his second World Series title on Thursday. 

The World Series Finals are the pinnacle of the PSA World Tour, bringing together the top eight player in the 2013 World Series standings as they battle it out for the ultimate crown on the tour, World Series Champion.

Ashour, the world number three who won the event back in 2007, lost the opening set 15-17 but then performed an impressive fightback to claim the next three games 11/7, 11/4 and 11/5.

“It was a brutal match and both of us were really hungry to win that opening game. It’s credit to him that it went that way. He deserved to win that game and I had to come back with a different plan from the second game and thankfully it worked,” Ashour said after the game.

“I’m really proud to win such a prestigious event. I really pushed myself and focused from the first point of the week until the last, which gives me a lot of confidence mentally,” he added.

Fellow Egyptian Amr Shabana won the World Series Finals twice in 2012 and 2013. The WSF is the end of season tournament of the PSA World Tour.
