For the fourth year running, the embassy of India in Cairo is celebrating the International Day of Yoga on 21 June.
The event marking the day will be held in El-Horreya Public Park, near Cairo Opera House, in Zamalek.
Events will also be organised in two other cities of Egypt, in Alexandria at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on 22 June, and in Ismailia at Nadi El-Mawani (the Ports Club) on 23 June.
The events are expected to draw yoga enthusiasts as well as some well-known personalities.
The UN General Assembly approved a resolution to celebrate 21 June as International Day of Yoga with a record 177 co-sponsoring countries.
The assembly stated in its resolution that yoga provides an integrated style for health and happiness and it stressed the importance of increasing the awareness of the benefits of practicing yoga around the world.
In this spirit, the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture conducts a number of promotional programmes in the run up to 21 June.
This year the centre is organising a "yoga photography contest"; winners will be selected with input from Facebook "likes", as well as by votes from an independent jury.
The three best entries will be honoured at the event in Cairo on 21 June.
