The iconic dress that Lady Diana wore during a dance with actor John Travolta at the White House will be auctioned on December 9, as announced by London auction house Kerry Taylor last month.

Lady Di wore a long-sleeved midnight-blue velvet robe with a dinner set in 1985 by US President Ronald Reagan (1981-1989) in honor of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Estimated between 250,000 and 350,000 pounds (293,000 and 410,000 euros), the dress was immortalized on photos where Diana danced with John Travolta to the rhythm of "You Should be Dancing" from the movie "Saturday Night Fever."

According to the auction house, Princess Diana had expressed only one desire for her trip to the United States which is "to dance with the actor."

"We danced for 20 minutes, it had a good rhythm, I was in seventh heaven," Travolta said on the set of an Australian talk show, evoking a "fairy tale."

The dress, created by the English designer Victor Edelstein, had already been sold to 240,000 pounds (281,000 euros) at a previous sale in 2013.

Two other pieces belonging to Lady Diana will be sold on December 9: a blue velvet dress designed by Katherine Cusack, and a shorter dress, in a marine style, that the princess "wore in private," according to the house of sale.

The Princess, her companion Dodi Al-Fayed and their chauffeur Henri Paul died on August 31, 1997 in a car accident in a tunnel under the bridge of Alma, in Paris.
