From December until 7 January, visitors to the Egyptian Museum in central Cairo will be allowed to take pictures with cameras and mobile phones inside the museum without paying any fees.
The museum's general supervisor, Khaled El-Anani, told MENA news agency that the antiquities minister had taken the decision to attract more visitors to the museum, which houses countless treasures from Ancient Egypt, including Tutankhamun's mummy and death mask.
Previously, visitors were not allowed to take cameras into the museum unless they paid a fee, and mobile phone photography was not allowed.
Anani pointed out that 3 artifacts that had recently been recovered from overseas will be on display in the museum for the first time.
It was not immediately clear whether or not photography will be allowed in the museum after 7 January.
