The two choirs won silver and gold awards at the 9th World Choir Games in Sochi, Russia (2016)

Two award-winning choirs, the Cairo Celebration Choir from Egypt and Dozan Wa Awtar from Jordan, join hands in their performances in Cairo and Alexandria.

The Cairo concert took place early today at the Opera House's lobby, gaining hearts of the large audience gathered at the Opera's lobby, and earning an enthusiastic standing ovation.

The concert opened with the Cairo Celebration Choir performing songs from their Aghani Bel Arabi programme, a compilation of songs by Egyptian composers such as Sayed Darwish, arranged by the choir's founder and conductor Nayer Nagui.

Conducted by Nagui, the choir was joined by traditional Arab singer Rehab Metawi, soprano Dina Iskandar, mezzo Jolie Faizy, Greig Martin on piano, Ramadan Mansour on tabla and Nashaat Yehia on riq.

Aghani Bel Arabi took the CCC Silver Diploma in the category Folklore with accompaniment, at the 9th World Choir Games — an international event held in July 2016 in Sochi, Russia.

In their turn, Dozan Wa Awtar was conducted by Nedy Muna and performed a cappella. Their segment featured songs from the Arab music heritage topped with a medley of the well known traditional Russian compositions.

The internationally acclaimed ensemble, Dozan Wa Awtar participated in the Champions Competition of 2016's World Choir Games, where it won gold medals in two categories: Music of Spirit and Faith, and Folklore with accompaniment. The choir was conducted by Shireen Abu Khader.

The concert concluded with both choirs singing together, led first by Nayer Nagui and then  Nedy Muna.

On 4 February, the choirs will also perform at the Alexandria Opera House in Alexandria.
