Egyptian artists and intellectuals protest recent culture ministry decisions and demand dismissal of Morsi-appointed minister

Hundreds of Egyptian artists and intellectuals gathered outside the Cairo Opera House on Thursday evening to protest recent decisions by Culture Minister Alaa Abdel-Aziz to dismiss heads of the Cairo Opera House and Egypt's Fine Arts Sector.

The opera house's artists and administrative staff declared a strike on Tuesday evening before a live audience as the curtain was raised for Verdi's 'Aida' to demand the minister's dismissal.
