Egypt has three new confirmed cases of bird flu, the health ministry has said, as tens of Egyptians continue to contract the virus nationwide.
The new cases include a 10-year-old boy from Upper Egypt's Aswan.
The ministry said in a statement that this brings the total number of bird flu cases in 2015 to 10, of which seven are currently being treated. Two people were already diagnosed and treated so far this year.
One person has died from the virus (N5H1) in 2015 — a three-year-old toddler from Giza. Last year, 11 people died of bird flu nationwide.
Most cases of bird flu in Egypt have been identified in rural areas, where villagers tend to raise poultry in their homes, increasing exposure to live or dead infected birds.
The virus first appeared in Egypt in 2006.
