A 6-month old girl was killed earlier Wednesday in Alexandria due to unstable weather conditions, reported Al-Ahram Arabic news website.
The baby was in her stroller when glass from a broken window fell on top of her due to a strong sandstorm which the city is currently experiencing, her father told Al-Ahram Arabic.
For the second day in a row bad weather conditions continued in Alexandria. Following strong dust storms, heavy rains hit the city forcing people to stay away from the street for several hours.
Alexandria's ports authority decided to halt ship movements in Alexandria and El-Dekheila ports for the second day in row.
Abdel Kader Darwish, the head of the ports authority in Alexandria, told state-owned news agency MENA that they took the decision to avoid collision of ships and maintain safety of the maritime navigation.
The Red Sea Ports Authority decided to stop nine commercial vessels from leaving the Suez ports on Wednesday because of the weather conditions.
The ports authorities also decided to halt the operations of El-Sokhna, Al-Adabia and Nuweiba ports for the second day in a row, Abdel Rahim Mostafa, a spokesperson, told Ahram Arabic news website.
A wave of unstable weather conditions has hit the country since Tuesday. The Egyptian Meteorological Authority "EMA" stated that that turbulent weather would continue till Thursday.
