Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry asserted the importance of working to develop economic relations with Croatia so as to cope up with the level of the distinguished political ties between both countries.

This came during a session of talks Shoukry held with Croatia's Prime Minister Andrej Plenković to mull means of promoting cooperation relations between Egypt and Croatia in various fields.

Shoukry congratulated the Croatian prime minister on his country's forthcoming presidency of the European Union in January 2020, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Hafez said.

Shoukry highlighted inclusive economic reforms that Egypt has implemented over the past few years, shedding light on the promising opportunities that the Egyptian market offers to the Croatian companies, Hafez added. 

Shoukry expressed hope that the Egyptian-Croatian committee would be held in 2020.

The meeting tackled prospects of cooperation in the tourism field.

The Croatian prime minister praised the level of relations and coordination with Egypt.

Plenković was also keen to get acquainted with Egypt's stance on the regional developments and various challenges facing the region, mainly the situation in Syria.
