Egypt's Prosecutor-General Hamada El-Sawy and his Saudi Arabian counterpart Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah Al Muajab have agreed to bolster cooperation between the two nations to combat migrant smuggling, terrorism and the extradition of criminals.

The two senior prosecutors held talks in Riyadh on Wednesday where they discussed enhancing the performance of the prosecution of the two countries and setting up joint committees to exchange anti-crime information, a statement by Egypt's public prosecution's office said.

Earlier in the day, Egypt's chief prosecutor El-Sawy visited the heavily-guarded Ha'er Prison in Riyadh, where he inspected the detainee care system, rehabilitation programmes and supervision mechanisms.

During their talks, the two prosecutors agreed to boost coordination between the prosecution's offices of the two countries, namely with regard to terrorism, migrant smuggling, money laundering and information technology crimes.

They also agreed to put into force agreements regulating criminal extradition and the transfer of convicts.
