Bishop Clemendes, the bishop of Almaza and Haganah churches and East Nasr City, reaffirmed in a speech Friday, delivered on behalf of Pope Tawadros II, the Orthodox Coptic Church's solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The speech came during an event organised by the Arab League on the occasion of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

Representatives from the Coptic Orthodox Church attended the event.

Bishop Clemendes asserted that it is the entire world’s responsibility to find a definitive solution to the issue of the Palestinian people through applying UN resolutions to achieve coexistence and to provide protection and a decent life to the Palestinian people.

Bishop Clemendes emphasised the importance of Egypt’s role in realising the Palestinian dream.

He explained that supporting the Palestinian cause is the right and just route to peace in the Middle East and the entire world.

The UN General Assembly called in 1977 for observing 29 November, the day the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 181 (II) on the partition of Palestine in 1947, as the annual International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

Egypt's Grand Mufti Shawki Allam called in his statement on the occasion for the international community to support the Palestinian people in their struggle to reclaim their legitimate rights and to establish an independent sovereign state of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.

Allam urged the international community as well as international and regional organisations to immediately intervene and stop Israel’s violations against the holy city of Jerusalem.

He warned of continued Israeli plans to Judaicise the occupied holy city and the rest of the Palestinian territories, especially given excavations carried out by Israeli authorities underneath Al-Aqsa Mosque and in its surroundings.

Allam stressed the importance of educating the Arab and Muslim youth on the true roots of the issue of Palestine and on the fact that it has historically been an Arab state.
