A delegation of high-ranking military leaders headed by Egypt's Defence minister Mohamed Zaki, and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Mohamed Farid visited on Thursday the Interior Minister Mahoud Tawfik to offer greeting on the 68th annual National Police Day, dated on 25 January.
During the meeting, the defence minister expressed Egyptian armed forces' appreciation of the patriotic role of police officers in securing the internal front and fortifying high state's interests.
The minister praised the role of the Egyptian armed forces, stressing "the recent defeats of the terrorism and curbing the criminal plans come as a result of this the strong bond between army and police as being the state's security wings.
On 25 January 1952, the British occupation, which was present in Egypt from 1882 until 1956, issued a warning to the Egyptian forces to evacuate the area, so they can take full control of the Canal, but the Egyptian police forces stood their grounds.
Police fought a heroic battle against the occupation in Ismailia City, overlooking the west bank of the Suez Canal. Fifty police personal were killed, and over 80 were injured.
