Palestinian youth groups have used Facebook to call for the boycott of Israeli goods and the “prohibition” of their entry into Palestinian homes. The move comes as a response to Israeli efforts to sabotage the reconciliation moves between Fatah and Hamas, in particular the decree to stop the transfer of tax revenue to the Palestinian Authority treasury.

A member on one of the Facebook groups posted on the site: “Father, if you please, do not feed us Israeli poison.” Another wrote: “We accept their stealing of our blood and hearts with the power of gunpowder, but how can we accept with our own will their entry into our kitchens and stomachs.”

Suleiman Abu Alia, an activist on one of the Facebook pages, said that the mobilisation campaign aims to raise public awareness of the danger of revenues generated by Israel from Palestinian markets.

Abu Alia added in an interview with the Palestinian news agency Maan (together) that the campaign hopes to deliver a message to the Israeli government that the Palestinians possess a popular will to stand in the way of Israeli plans to plant the seeds of division and discord amongst them.

Abu Alia added that Israel’s disruption of financial resources “must not deter the political leadership from embarking on the reconciliation and ending the division” and that the leadership “is armed by a popular will and a mass stand that is supportive” of the unity.
