Confronting those declaring Muslims as unbelievers intellectually
Harsh punishment is not the right tool for eradicating the phenomenon of declaring Muslims as unbelievers (Takfir)

When incitement to violence becomes a staunch media campaign, managed from abroad and being persistent on people's minds night and day. When this incitement is backed up by aberrant Fatwas that confer religious legitimacy on burning, sabotaging and violating the sanctity of money and honour and portray the inter-fighting between sons of the same country as Jihad in the name of Allah. When arbitrariness increases in order to arrest innocent people, unsubstantiated accusations are leveled randomly on those who have nothing to do with anything and the most basic human rights of those detained are violated. When the blood of dozens is spilled recklessly, what will prevent a teenager or even a youth in his twenties from dipping himself into the quagmire of declaring Muslims as unbelievers (Takfir)?

It isn't a prerequisite that the victim of a Takfiri thought be brought up in an intellectually distorted environment or a socially poor milieu. Rather, it suffices that all the previous factors accompanied with utter ignorance of the foundations of proper Islamic belief are to create, from a pampered or poor youth or the university student or the illiterate young man, a living substance pulsating with fanaticism and extremism wherever it goes.

Punishing the aggressor is an Islamic jurisprudential duty and a logical necessity in order to rid a society of its scourges and evils. But he, who thinks that the harsh punishment is a tool for getting rid of the phenomenon of Takfir and subsequently being relieved of terrorism, is delusional.

Dozens of political science professors, strategic experts, and an army of media persons, journalists, and analysts all make the same mistake of addressing symptoms while ignoring the incurable disease itself. When they speak about takfir, their talk is confined to the security framework without refuting or invalidating the arguments of those who declare Muslims as unbelievers. Until when shall we continue to revolve in this vicious cycle?

If takfir is launched from an intellectual incubator that claims it is committed to the texts of the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah (the teachings and normative example of the Prophet), then intellectual confrontation should come from scholars and credible authorities within Islam. Let this confrontation be held in our mosques, forums, satellite channels, and even on billboards and posters.

We can start this discussion with Sharia law (Islamic jurisprudence) scholars, Islamic studies students, and brilliant preachers. These respected authorities within Islam should participate in wide-scale campaigns sponsored by Al-Azhar, charity organizations, developmental institutions and moderate-thinking Islamic action to confront the outbreak of the cancer of takfir among the youth of our nation, equipped with the Sharia sciences necessary to eradicate the disease and treat its after-effects.

When the Kharijites group emerged during the rule of the Caliph Ali ibn Abi Talib, quoting texts from the Holy Qur'an in order to support their false faith, projecting it out of context due to ignorance and arrogance, he sent to them the renowned Islamic jurist Abdullah ibn Abbas to argue with them. He was able to return with half of them repentant and penitent. The argument was held clear on those who remained before the sword fell on their necks…Shall we repeat this act now, for maybe we will gain one tenth of them repentant and penitent?

The author is well aware that those who are infected with the Takfari mentality has no intellectual side to it. Their role model is Ibn Taymeiah's book called Jihad. They belive in using force in obtaining their objectives regardless how many innocent people perish in the process. I am sure that if Salafis were ruling Egypt this author would not have wrote this article. Now that the mask from the Salafis are removed he is giving the spin to the issue. He is wrong in saying that Ali ibn Talib sent Ibn Abbas to argue with them, he sent him to find more about their mentality and mindset. After lerning that they are monsters in religous clothing he went after them and finished them. When an Egyptian Scholar was dragged on the street by Salafi gangs, he did not pick up his pen to write against the criminals because Salfais were in power, and now he is showing that we need to resort to intellectual discussion. He is an idiot.

Takfeer Groups
Religions are part of human culture that changes over time. In USA there are 45,000 denominations of Chritianity and the list goes on. In Islam there are several sects from Sofi to Habali and over 44 Shareh. So let it be as long as a group not promote evil or violence.

That's laughable coming from you Mr. Bakkar
The writer's comments are laughable given the history of the group he is the spokesperson for. You do not have to go far to read, see and listen to the fatwas of their clerics that demonstrate their level of intolerance and hatred of anyone thats not a Salafi. Civilized society can not exist with the presence of a group that preaches hatred and intolerance like the salafis do. Salafis hate shiites, copts, women (other than for sex) and even other sunni muslim groups who fight them for power.

good point- its mindboggling how brotherhood hood can attack sunni Muslims without guilt---soulless?
This guy is right about finding a cure while treating the symptoms. This is not political it is about making sure the religion is taught correctly. Education is the best to prevent a new generation of terrorist. Great example. Take care

Impossible
It is impossible to have a theological debate when the other side believes they are the only ones who understand God and those who believe otherwise are evil and should be put to death - or marginalized at least. Many believe that if you disagree with them, you are insulting God and Islam. It was the Salafi who have burned Sufi shrines and prohibited Shia from visiting their holy places in Egypt. It was the Salafi who called for the death of Copts. I did not hear their fellow believers tell them this was wrong. Iwas taught that in Islam, the individual's relationship with God was between the individual and God. The Salafi do not accept this. They complain about God being insulted when it is against Islam to ascribe human emotions to God. Ones religion is shown on how one lives his life, not by what he wears on his chin. The Salafi have a sex obsessed religion that seems to seek only to punish (God's job). I will alsways admire Rumi's message of love and hope more.

Religious corporation
America is a religious nation with unlimited social freedoms. Now the people who succeed religiously amongst this freedom are the faiths that are organized. Faiths such as the Amish, Mormons and Chinese Protestants create religious corporations that are incorporated in the state. Those then become multi national corporations that build churches and construct safe havens every where. This is the true essence of the caliphate, a multi national corporate body that preaches good and repels evil for the goal of absolute peace. Learn from the people of the book it is our Muslim duty to cooperate with them , not to compete with them.

Thx for the support
All other credentials are purely academic. The model I suggest to follow that has worked for the people of the book is called a membership corporation. It fits very well into the secular world and is conforming to civic life. This corporation will solely be in charge of Islamic religious affairs. As far as the Islamic identity of the nation goes, this is an arbitrary turn of event that is now part of being Egyptian and is very much required by most of the Egyptian nation. Destroying the Islamic identity of Egypt is as harmful as destroying its pharaonic identity. It is who we are decreed by history and should not be changed. It can however be transformed by making those identities symbolic and constructing a modern pro western secular lifestyle that will allow egypt unharmed with its very being to enter the 21st century.

caliphate, sam is right
Dear sam, your argument is correct but innacurate, because no argument is going to be accurate because it's an argument. In essence, mr Sam most muslims who believe in the Quran as the source of our way of life and the life of the prophet as the example believe that Islam is more than a relationship with God. Yes, at its foundation Islam is a relationship with God, however the prophet made it an institution. This institution needs to be united like one body. The salafis are ignorant and sex crazed but it started as a way to go back to that institution. The way we go back is to regain the legitimate scholars as the teachers of this institution and those in charge of legal affairs. The shura and the whole system is lead by the successors of the prophet. The successors of the prophet are the scholars. There is this credential called ijazah given from Azhar university and affiliates that is passed on from generation to generation from the prophet's time. All other credentials are purely ac

While many churches are incorporated in the US, the purpose of the corporation is legal for tax and other purposes. There can be by The Consttution no government involvement in religion. It is also ossible one oe blocck to have a mosque, a church, a buddahist temple, a Hindu Shrine or any other combination of edifices serving various faiths. In the US, you can build a church dedicated to your dog Your religion is between you ad God as you understand it. TheSalafi would fight against a Shia mosque or a Sufi shrine because the Salafi do not believe as they do

Keep religion out!
NO, no, no, Mr. Bakker! This whole problem will stop not before the moment you keep religion COMPLETELY out of politics. And it will not stop before you stop to interfere or to work with religious terms as "unbelievers" inside politics or in the debate between people of different political ideas or ideologies. You can talk or discuss this issue with whomever you want and as long as you want, the simple solution is: KEEP RELIGION OUT!!!

This man is a Sisi shoe, he has no morality whatsoever
He should belong to the dustbin of history. He just seeks a certificate of good conduct from the Church, the godlrdd decularists and the promiscuous liberal fascists.
