Egyptian star singer Mohamed Mounir to support upcoming culture ministry projects

The ministry plans several projects that will see cooperation between this body and one of Egypt's most renowned singers

On Sunday 4 February, Egypt's Minister of Culture Ines Abdel-Dayem met the renowned singer Mohamed Mounir.

In the meeting, the pair discussed several artistic projects on which Mounir and the ministry are set to collaborate in coming months.

The 63-year old singer congratulated the newly appointed minister of culture, the first woman and musician to hold the position.

He expressed his readiness to support and work with the ministry on any artistic activity that will help increase the public value of art in service to the country.

Mounir, whose musical and acting career has spanned over three decades, is known as “the King” among his fans, in reference to his album The King is The King.

The famous singer encompasses a variety of different of genres into his music, including Nubian music, classical Arabic music, blues, reggae and jazz.

He has also found success as an actor, having appeared in four television series and in 12 films, in addition to roles in three theatrical plays.

Mounir made his acting debut in Hadouta Masriya (An Egyptian Story) by renowned director Youssef Chahine.

He is also featured on the film's soundtrack.

Mounir also acted in Chahine's 1997 film Al-Maseer (Destiny) and in Dunia in 2005, directed by Jocelyne Saab.

He played himself in the 2006 Mafeesh Ghayr Keda (Nothing But This), directed by Khaled El-Hagar.

Most recently Mohamed Mounir was honoured by the Cairo Nile Lions' Club in a festive ceremony that took place in Garden City on 27 January.
