Conductor Magdy Boghdady was appointed head of the Artistic House at the Cairo Opera in a decree issued by Magdi Saber, chairman of the Cairo Opera House (National Cultural Centre) last week.
The Artistic House department overlsees the repertoire and all artistic aspects of the music, opera and ballet companies operating under the Cairo Opera's wings.
Boghdady replaces Saber who served as head of the Artistic House for a year and since February 2018 paralleling it with his responsibilities as the opera's chairman.
Boghdady graduated with honors from Cairo Conservatory's trumpet section in 1981 and continued his studies in Frankfurt, Germany, where he obtained a PhD.
Upon his return to Egypt, he became an assistant professor at the Cairo Conservatory, and later head of the wind instruments department.
Between 1983 until 1997, Boghdady served as a principal trumpet at the Cairo Symphony Orchestra.
Boghdady has conducted the Cairo Symphony Orchestra on several occasions, usually focusing on wind ensembles, focusing on concerts for children.
In the early 2000s, he founded his own Boghdady Big Band which became a well known ensemble among the jazz music spectrum in Egypt.
