The Cervantes Institute (Spanish Cultural Centre) in Cairo seeks to restore the joyful atmosphere of the summer cinema through the event 'Cinema and Lemon Juice in the Garden,' during which Spanish films are screened outdoors in the institute's garden.

The event began on Thursday night with director Alex De La Iglesia's comedic film Migran Noche (Big Night, 2015), which takes place at the site of a special ceremony that will be shown on New Year’s Eve but filmed a few months earlier.

The event is held on Thursday each week during July and August, and unlike the usual cinema, the audience can sit comfortably and bring their favourite food, while Cervantes Institute offers cold drinks.

This event is not confined to students of the Cervantes Institute, but can be attended by anyone as all films are subtitled in English.

On Thursday, the film A Caramela, the winner of 13 Joya awards, including Best Film, will be screened. The action takes place during the Spanish Civil War between 1936 and 1939. It is about a band of comedians who used to entertain the Republican soldiers at the front.

In the weeks to come, 'Cinema and Lemon Juice in the Garden' will also feature films such as Cousins, 18 Food, Chinese Tale, and Born to Suffer.
