Cervantes Institute

The Cervantes Institute in Cairo and Alexandria launched the series "Songs for Reading at Night", with the aim of entertaining people during the partial curfew in Egypt. Every day at 7pm, you are on a date with one of the Spanish-speaking rock stars, where each of them will choose a song that our friends in Egypt would like to listen to while reading her words. The series started on Wednesday evening, March 25, in conjunction with the entry into force of a partial curfew in Egypt, among several measures aimed at facing the coronavirus. The rock star who opened the series was Loquillo, a Spanish rock and roll singer, who is born on 21 December 1960 in Barcelona, and is famed as the Egyptian superstar Amr Diab. Loquillo sent his fans in Cairo and Alexandria this message: “I dedicate the song Ugly, Strong and Official to all the friends of the Cervantes Institute in Cairo and Alexandria, because it is the song that expresses me and the values that define me as a person, “Enjoy and dance”. This series is part of the measures taken by the Cervantes Institute in Cairo and Alexandria to continue its activities remotely with its students despite the current situation. It is reported that the Institute provides online courses so that students can continue their study activities remotely.

Due to the current imposed self-isolation, Room has launched an initiative of live concerts streamed on Facebook and YouTube. Room is planning to provide two kinds of activities: prerecorded concerts, which would be then uploaded on Facebook and YouTube in the evening hours; and Friday live streaming which would take place in the afternoon. Follow them on their Facebook page for live concerts.
