Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is delighted with the performance of Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny against Tottenham in the north London derby, saying the player is adapting quickly to English football.

The Egyptian international, who joined Arsenal in January from Swiss side Basel, made his first Premier League start in Saturday's thrilling 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at the White Hart Lane.

"It was a very positive performance because he structured our team very well," Wenger told the club's official website on Tuesday.

"He looks to be an intelligent player who moves the ball very quickly, finds his partners and plays forward.

"It was a very convincing performance for a first time [in the Premier League].

"I believe mentally he has integrated very well into the team, he is very keen and very humble. He has a great desire to learn, so everybody in the squad likes him and he is a positive surprise on that front as well."

The former Arab Contactors midfielder has featured in two FA Cup games since his arrival in England and played as a late substitute in Arsenal's 3-2 league loss to Manchester United.
