Egypt's Ismaily got a first-leg advantage after defeating Kuwaiti side Kuwait 2-0 in the round of 32 of the Arab Club Champions Cup at Ismailia stadium on Sunday.

Winger Mohamed El-Shamy fired the hosts in front in the 34th and Cameroonian striker Christopher Mendouga, a summer arrival, ensured the win nine minutes after the break.

The Dervishes could have secured a bigger win had they converted several goal-scoring chances, but they will still be favourites to advance to the last 16.

Ismaily's win makes their mission easier in the second leg, which will be played on 27 September in Kuwait.
