Morocco national football team coach Hervé Renerad has said that Egypt and Senegal are favourites to claim this year’s 2019 African Cup of Nations title.
"Everyone expresses their goals as they please, I say that we will go to Egypt to make a beautiful CAN, and to say that we will win it is something else," Morocco's coach Renerad told jeuneafrique.
"It's easy to play at a CAN, we're going to play against very motivated teams, we will not be at home, it's always more complicated and we will know more when the draw is held next April, " the French coach added.
"We will go with an ambition, that's normal, but today there are two great favourites: Egypt, of course, and Senegal," Renard said.
"Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Ivory Coast and others, are the big outsiders.”
In November the Confederation of African Football (CAF) stripped original host Cameroon of its duties, citing delays in its preparations for the expanded 24-team tournament.
Meanwhile, Egypt made a bid to host the AFCON after Morocco, which was reportedly eager to bid to host the tournament, announced it would not make a bid.
Egypt went on to win the vote among CAF’s executive committee to host the competition; Egypt obtained 16 out of 18 votes, with only one vote going to rival South Africa, while the remaining voting country abstained.
