Egyptian giants Ahly have fined on Monday the team’s captain Hossam Ashour for violating the club's regulations after speaking out on social platforms without prior authorisation.

The 34-year-old veteran midfielder posted a video on his official Instagram account talking about recent disturbances halting the arrangement of his planned farewell match.

In the 9-minute video Ashour expressed his frustration at the delay, especially in such a moment of his career, seeing that he had served the club for more than 17 years.

A statement published on the club's website added that Ashour’s statements will also be reviewed by Ahly's planning committee for a decision.

Ahly's most decorated captain's contract expire at the end of the season and he has been told that he won't be offered a new one.

Ahly's President Mahmoud El-Khatib reached an agreement with Ashour over a retirement package including a farewell game but the process has witnessed some delays due to unknown reasons.

Football activity was suspended in Egypt since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic, and until now there are no governmental decisions regarding resuming or cancelling the local competitions.
