Zamalek regain second place, send Haras El-Hodoud out of Premier League

Zamalek returned to second place on the Egyptian League table and are now in the runner-up position with 65 points, one point above opponents Pyramids FC

Zamalek defeated Haras El-Hodoud 2-1 on the 33rd matchday of the Egyptian Premier League late on Monday, regaining second place on the league table, keeping alive their hopes of reaching the coming edition of the CAF Champions League.

After their 2-1 loss to Zamalek, Haras El-Hodoud have been officially relegated from the Egyptian Premier League as they are in 16th place on the table with 30 points, four points behind Gouna, who are in 15th place with one game remaining.

Zamalek are now the runner-up with 65 points, one point ahead of opponents Pyramids FC.

Haras El-Hodoud made a superb start against Zamalek, as they were looking to keep alive their hopes of staying in the domestic competition. Striker Amr El-Halawani scored an early goal for the military side with a penalty kick only seven minutes after the start.

Zamalek's players did their best to find the equaliser before the end of the first half, as the Whites' striker Mostafa Mohamed was close to finding the net but his shot was denied by Haras El-Hodoud goalie Ahmed El-Saadani.

Zamalek's striker Mostafa Mohamed scored the equaliser in the 64th minute after delivering a long cross from right-back Ahmed Eid.

The Whites' defender Mahmoud Hamdi doubled the score for his side 15 minutes before the final whistle when he headed a fine cross from right winger Eslam Gaber, finishing the game with the 2-1 win for Zamalek.
