Algeria booked their seat in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations after their tie against Zimbabwe, while South Sudan snatched their first victory in the qualifiers after beating Uganda during Monday’s games.
Despite leading the game with two goals for nearly 45 minutes, after Andry Delort scored the first goal and Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez scored a splendid second goal, the Desert Foxes were held by the hosts Zimbabwe who managed to equalise only eight minutes before the end of the match’s original time.
The draw gave Algeria their 10th point after playing four matches, which secures their place in the 2021 AFCON, as Zimbabwe come second with five points, Botswana third with four points and Zambia occupy the last position of Group H with three points.
Meanwhile, South Sudan finally managed to score their first three points in the qualifiers after beating Uganda 1-0 on Monday to enhance their situation in Group B, despite staying at the bottom of the group with few chances to reach the AFCON.
Burkina Faso top Group B with eight points, Uganda are second with seven points, and Malawi are third placed with four points.
The fourth round of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers will end on 17 November with only three teams securing their seats in the continental tournament so far: Cameroon, Senegal and Algeria.
