Mido celebrates his second goal with Ajax
“He is not yet Olive for Popeye, but he is on the right track," Ajax coach Martin Jol told De Telegraaf on Monday.
Egyptian striker Ahmed "Mido" Hossam has worked hard since joining the team last summer to break through the first team and managed to score two goals in a handful of appearances, mostly as a substitute.
“Now, I want to play as a starter as I am ready to have more action,” says Mido, who came off the bench in the 56th minute in the club's game against VVV Venlo to score his first league goal six minutes later. Ajax secured a 2-0 victory.
“I haven’t played much yet, but I make a good impact each time I come in," he adds. "I work hard during training sessions and it made the difference.”
The report also praised the 27-year-old striker saying he looks in better shape after losing his extra weight.
Mido has a golden opportunity to break through to Jol’s starting XI as injured regular starters Luis Suarez and Mounir El Hamdaoui will sidelined for a few weeks.
