Experts at Egypt's Mansoura University convene to discuss the latest advances in ophthalmology

Egypt's renowned Mansoura University witnessed the launch of the first "Mansoura-Paris Ophthalmic Forum", 30 October till 2 November, held at the Mohamed Emara Hall of the university's Ophthalmic Centre.

Under the title, "Vision is a Right for All", the forum shed light on the latest advances in ophthalmological surgery, especially concerning pediatric keratoplasty and treatment of pediatric glaucoma, where expertise was exchanged between Egyptian and French counterparts through lectures and interactive live surgeries.

Professionals participating in the event included Professor Ashraf Abdel Basset, acting president of Mansoura University, Professor Ashraf Swailam, vice-president for postgraduate studies and research, Professor Said Abdel Hady, dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Tarek Mohsen, director of the Ophthalmic Centre, Professor Adel El-Layih, head of the Department of Ophthalmology, Professor  Walid Abu-Samra, forum moderator, Professor Farha El-Shennawy, director of the Stem Cell Centre, Professor Wafaa El Bahai, vice-dean of the Faculty of Medicine for postgraduate studies, Professor Farid Elias, representative of the Egyptian Medical Association, Dr Reem Abdel-Rahman, representative of the French Embassy in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and a number of faculty members at Mansoura University.

From France, professors  Jean-Louis Borg Vanillon, Head of Ophthalmology at the University of René Descartes, Paris, and  Jean-Remy Vanillon expert on glaucoma , Bijan Hospital, Paris, participated in the event.

The forum is a direct collaboration between the Ophthalmic Centre at Mansoura University, the French-Egyptian Medical Association, the French Institute in Cairo, and the Embassy of France in Egypt.
