Air France celebrates its Charles de Gaulle's hub anniversary

France celebrated the 20th anniversary of the creation of its' hub and spoke' at Charles de Gaulle Airport terminal 2 on Monday, by introducing an investment plan designed to upgrade its facilities.

The hub which witnessed an investment of 40 million euros in 2016, handles more than 1,000 daily arriving and departing flights and more than 50% of Charles de Gaulle's airport annual traffic.

"We are working on the renovation of buildings, information systems, technologies and maintenance of aircraft," .Jean-Marc Janaillac, CEO of Air France-KLM, told a press conference in honor of his hub. "This enormous mechanism involves enormous investments"

"The airports are clearly competing with eac others," justified Augustin de Romanet, CEO of the ADP Group.

"When someone goes from Caracas to China, he has a choice between a dozen hubs for his correspondence. We do everything we can to attract him. It's up to us to be the best, "he explains.

In the press conference, the operator of Paris’s airports, announced that it started testing a new face-recognition software to speed passengers through immigration faster after recent terrorist attacks in France and Europe doubled delays due to tightened security.

The Air France hub management also announced that 500 million euros would be invested to improve baggage recovery times, in particular via a new sorting center currently under construction and scheduled for 2018. The hub currently handles around 100 thousands luggage a day.

For the anniversary of the hub, showed more than 100 journalists its newly opened and upgraded lounges, as well as an underway mega project designed to speed luggage handling .

The upgrades include 'Instant Paris', a, free, spacious relaxation zone, that includes comfortable seating, a café and restaurant, and a library. YotelAir, an hotel where you can get a room for a night or for a few hours, was also open in the hub itself, next to the relaxation area.

A Kids center destined to serve the more than 60,000 unaccompanied children that travel through the Air France hub was opened late in 2016. The center has a game room with electronic games, a rest area, a reading room and an activities space for younger children.
