Israel gas deal case postponed
Ahram Online, Tuesday 28 Jun 2011
The Cairo Criminal Court has postponed the case of gas exports to Israel to 16 July

The case was filed against Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmy and five officials in the petrol sector for agreeing to export Egypt’s natural gas to Israel through a direct order without respecting and adhering to the correct legal procedures and for much less than its value, which resulted in the waste of public funds.

The prosecution also accused Hussein Salem, former president Hosni Mubarak’s closest confidante and a partner in the East Mediterranean Gas Company (EMG), which has supplied Israel with natural gas since June 2008, of collaborating with the group to secure lucrative gas deals. Salem was detained in Spain on 14 June following an international arrest warrant issued by the Interpol.
