President Mohamed Morsi is expected to issue on Tuesday a presidential decree to pardon around 150 civilians who were tried and convicted in military courts on civilian-related crimes, according to Al-Ahram Arabic-language news website.

The president based his decision for a second wave of pardons on the recommendation of the Civil Rights Protection committee, recently drawn up by Morsi to look into all cases of civilians detained by military authorities.

The Ministry of Interior said that this second list of pardoned civilians did not include any individuals with criminal history.

Earlier on 19 July, the president ordered the release of 572 Egyptian citizens who had been detained by military authorities since the Tahrir Square uprising in January 2011.

Activists have long been campaigning for the release of all civilians in military custody and facing military trials.

A total of 11,879 Egyptians have been detained by the military since last year's uprising, according to figures issued by the committee. Of these, 9,714 have since been released.
