Handball: Stuttering Egypt lose to Poland at Rio
Ahram Online , Thursday 11 Aug 2016

Egypt's dream to advance into the second round at the Olympics was dealt a fatal blow after slumping in a 33-25 loss to Poland on Thursday.

The Pharaohs, who earned a stunning win over Sweden on Wednesday, made a slow start, ending the first half six goals down.

They tried to close the gap in the second half, succeeded to come within four goals before Poland regained their composure during the last five minutes to win the game 33-25.

Egypt's classy right-back Ahmed El-Ahmar was far from his form so were the majority of players who committed several naive mistakes throughout the game.

The Pharaohs are on the fifth place in the group with two points. They will face hosts Brazil on Saturday before their anticipated tough clash against European champion Germany two days later.

With a win over Germany nearly impossible, Egypt have no choice but to win against Brazil to keep their second round hopes alive.

The top four teams will qualify for the quarter finals.
