Police fired teargas on Tuesday to disperse dozens of student supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi protesting in front of Ain Shams University, Al-Ahram's Arabic news website reported.

Demonstrating students set tyres on fire, blew fireworks and attempted to block off the road while chanting slogans against the army, the police and the interim authorities. Police responded with teargas, chasing them into side streets.

Traffic was diverted due to the clashes, security sources told Al-Ahram.

Pro-Morsi students have protested nearly every day of the academic year that started after Mori's ouster in September of last year, denouncing authorities and calling for the release of their detained fellows.

University students are currently sitting for end-of-year examinations, shadowed by fears of a recurrence of the violence that had interrupted mid-year exams, specifically in Al-Azhar University.

Pro-Morsi students have been at the heart of the Brotherhood's defiance of interim authorities, especially after the group's street presence fizzled significantly amid a security crackdown that left hundreds of its members killed and thousands detained, including the Brotherhood's top leadership.
