Algeria delivered a confident and energetic performance against Germany in the round of 16 of the World Cup, despite their extra-time 2-1 loss on Monday.

Right after the game, the Algerians received congratulations and praise from Egyptian footballers and fans.

"We thank all Algerian players and technical staff members. You made all Arabs proud despite your elimination," former Egypt and Ahly star midfielder Mohamed Abou-Treika said during his television analysis of the World Cup.

"Very well done to Algeria. All Arabs and Africans should be proud of the Algerian team. Bravo," stated Egypt and Ahly forward Mohamed Nagi 'Gedo' on Twitter after the game.

The two footballers were in the Egypt team that lost the 2010 World Cup ticket to Algeria in a decisive clash in Sudan when a dispute between the two countries followed.

The pair, among many Egyptians, expressed support towards their Algerian 'brothers'.

On social media, many Egyptian football fans expressed disappointment after Algeria's loss and praised their performance.
