Zamalek hopes to revive its CAF Champions League fortunes by having AS Vita Club excluded from the competition in the wake of allegations against Rwandan forward Etekiama

Zamalek has filed a complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against Congolese side AS Vita Club, the Cairo giants announced Friday night.

Zamalek's hopes of reaching the African Champions League semis were dashed after losing to AS Vita Club 1-0 in the fourth round of the group stage in Alexandria Sunday.

The loss was the first for the Whites under new coach Hossam Hassan, who was eyeing a winning debut in his second stint with the team.

The victory sealed AS Vita Club's qualification alongside fellow countrymen TP Mazembe with a match still to go.

CAF recently suspended Vita Club’s Rwandan forward Taddy Etekiama over an alleged case of dual identity. It was reported that the player is holding two different passports under two different names.

According to Zamalek’s official Facebook page, club management asked the CAF to exclude Vita Club from the prestigious Champions league as a result of the Etekiama case.

The CAF is expected to give its final word on Etekiama’s case Wednesday.
