Egyptian champion Elshorbagy books a place in the US Open semifinals after beating Englishman Adrian Waller, facing the world number one in the next round
Egyptian champion Mohamed Elshorbagy beat Englishman Adrian Waller 2-1 to reach the US Open squash semi-finals Thursday.
It seemed like an easy ride for the world number two Elshorbagy who won 18/16, 11/8 and 11/9.
The 23-year old will face the world number one, Frenchman Gregory Gaultier, Friday. The latter went through after beating Simon Rosner from Germany 3-1.
"I know I've beaten him (Gaultier) the last two times, but he's beaten me nine times before that," Elshorbagy said.
"He's the world number one and such a strong player, and if I play my best there's still a chance I can lose, so I have to hope I get it right on the day," he added.
"Every player wants to be number one and I think the pressure is on Greg to defend his ranking. Players say they just come to play and enjoy themselves but I'm sure they'd enjoy it a lot more if they are the number one at the end of the tournament," Elshorbagy added.
In another venue, Egypt squad star Amr Shabana competes his country fellow Omar Mosaad to complete the last four later Thursday.
