Art Alert: Cairo Symphony to play for children

In its two matinee concerts, Cairo Symphony Orchestra conducted by Nayer Nagui will perform Carnival of the Animals and Peter and the Wolf


On Sunday 2 November and Monday 3 November, Cairo Symphony Orchestra will hold two matinee concerts catered to children seven and over.

The programme will include well-known works considered to be in the standard repertoire of concerts for children:Camille Saint-Saëns' suiteCarnival of the Animals andSergei Prokofiev'sPeter and the Wolf, a story told by a narrator and accompanied by the orchestra.

Carnival of the Animals is scored for two pianos and the orchestra. The soloists are Elena Dzamashvili and Haitham Ibrahim.

Peter and the Wolf includes a narration which will be performed in Arabic and English on two evenings respectively. Mohamed Abdel Moaty will narrate the text in Arabic on 2 November and Raouf Zaidan will narrate the English performance on 3 November.

Though this is not the first time the Cairo Symphony Orchestra has addressed children, prior children’s concerts which had same programming were held in the evening hours.

This time the Cairo Symphony Orchestra will perform in matinee hours, starting at 11am on both days.

Children aged 7 years and older are welcome to attend.
