Galal Zekri-Chatila to cycle every inch of Egypt in 4 months

Egypt on 2 Wheels will take adventurer to four corners of Egypt - and discover the country's beauty


Galal Zekri-Chatila aims to travel every inch of Egypt by bike, along the way promoting positive values and encouraging Egyptians to get outside and discover the beauty of the country.

His first big trip was a hike to the Suez Canal city of Ismailia in 2008. Then came his first solo cycling trip, 100 km to the Red Sea resort town of Ain Sokhna. Later he also cycled alone to Nuweiba through the Sinai Peninsula.

Now the college student going for an unprecedented experience: cycling around Egypt in four months, covering more than 7,000 km.

The project is called Egypt on 2 Wheels, and will kick off on 22 November.

The adventure will take Galal to the four corners of the country, covering over 45 cities: Saloum, Siwa and the other four oases of the Western Desert, along with Marsa Alam, Shelatin, Halayeib, the Sinai Peninsula and the Nile Delta.

"The idea isn’t about setting a record but revealing the hidden beauties of our nation," says Galal.

Along the way he plans to film a short adventure movie, write a book and take as many photos as possible.

He's been preparing for a long time – physical training to make sure he's up for it. He has also been planning the daily course, studying the weather and wind patterns, the location of each stop as well as telecom towers so he stay connected online.

He'll take the semester off from university classes.

"Life doesn't end at a bachelor's degree," he says.
