Helmy reportedly underwent surgery to remove a tumour in his back; will return to Egypt when his medical condition allows
According to Al-Arabic Ahram website, renowned Egyptian actor Ahmed Helmy has undergone surgery in the United States.
The medical procedure was aimed at removing a tumour from his back.
According to reports, the operation was successful and Helmy was transfered to an intensive care unit as standard post-operational procedure.
Al-Ahram Arabic website added that Helmy is expected to return to Egypt when his medical condition allows.
Helmy is one of Egypt's foremost actors with a career spanning over 15 years. He rose to stardom in 1999 in his role in Sherif Arafa's comedyAboud Ala El-Hedoud(Aboud on the Borders) starring Karim Abdel Aziz.
Helmy then moved to leading roles in films such asSahar El-Layaly(2003), Saye Bahr (2004),Zaky Chan (2005), Alf Mabrouk (2009), Bolbol Hairan (2009). He is also voice of a storyteller in the 2014 film by Amr Salama,La Moakhza(Excuse my French).
His most recent role was in Salama’sMade in Egypt, released during Eid Al-Fitr in July 2014.
