Saint-Saƫns' Carnival of the Animals, with accompanying Arabic narration, to be performed on Tuesday morning

Two matinee performances at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on Tuesday will allow Alexandrian children to hear a special take on one of the best known works for young audiences: Camille Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals.

What makes the concert particularly unique is the Arabic narration which accompanies the music. Written by Nader Salah El-Din, the text will be narrated by one of Egypt's foremost actors, Abdel-Rahman Abou-Zahra.

Carnival of the Animals is a musical suite in 14 movements, scored for two pianos and the orchestra. The score takes the listeners through different instruments and musical styles, which evoke different animals.

Following the narration, the children will listen to the call of the cuckoo, the donkey's braying, the dynamic stir between the hens and the roosters, the slow movements of tortoises, and many other sounds that Saint-Saëns’ much loved work captures.

The concert will feature the Horus Piano Duo, Ahmed Abou-Zahra and Nora Emody, accompanied by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Chamber Orchestra and conducted by Hisham Gabr.

There are two performances, one at 10am and one at 11:45am.
