TV host Ahmed Moussa sentenced to jail for 6 months on charges of insulting lawyer of Zamalek's Ultras White Knights fan group
Egyptian television host Ahmed Moussa was sentenced to six months in jail and a fine of LE10,000 for insulting Tarek El-Awady – lawyer for Zamalek's Ultras White Knights fan club – and airing false news.
Moussa, who is a staunch opponent of the 25 Jaunary revolution, will LE5,000 on bail and a fine of LE10,000.
Moussa had claimed in his television show in September that El-Awady torched a police vehicle during the January 2011 uprising – a case where El-Awady was never convicted and the court concluded that the perpetrator is unknown. Moussa also called El-Awady a "criminal" during the episode.
The court sentence came after El-Awady filed a legal complaint against him.
Moussa hosts a talk show on the privately owned satellite channel Sada El-Balad and is also a journalist at Al-Ahram newspaper.
He has repeatedly launched verbal attacks on activists associated with 25 January, but was never brought to court over any such attacks.
In September, he was questioned by the journalists` syndicate for allegedly breaching the media code of ethics and attacking the 2011 revolt following complaints by other journalists.
