Egypt and Dortmund forward Mohamed Zidan granted dual German nationality, says he will end his career with Cairo giants Ahly

Borussia Dortmund striker Zidan revealed on Wednesday that he gained the German dual nationality following the team’s first German Bundesliga triumph since 2002.

“My German nationality request has been accepted today,” the Egyptian international said in a television interview.

Zidan said he applied for the German citizenship few months ago and the mayor of Dortmund granted him his wish after Dortmund won the league title with two games to spare last month.

“I passed all the tests and the Mayor of Dortmund agreed to give me the German nationality, few months after I made the request. His quick decision was the result of Dortmund’s Bundesliga victory,” Zidan added.

The 29-year-old said that he is proud to help Dortmund end their league drought, although he made few appearances due to niggling injury problems.

“I will do my best to book a regular place in Dortmund’s starting line-up next season,” said Zidan, who is set to experience European Champions League football for the first time in his career.

Zidan also reiterated that he aims to finish his career with Egyptian champions Ahly, who also made no secret of their desire to sign him when he becomes available.

“Any Egyptian foreign-based player prefers to play for Ahly when he returns to Egypt. I will join them when I finalize my deal with Dortmund,” he concluded.
