Zamalek will take on Rwanda's Rayon Sports, Sunday, in the first official test under new coach Ferreira; players to honor the victims of Air Defence Stadium disaster
Zamalek duo Omar Gaber and Khaled Kamar are ready to boost the team in Sunday's clash against Rwanda's team Rayon Sports in the CAF Confederation Cup, the Cairo giants announced.
Zamalek will host the Rwandan side in the first leg of the competition's Round 32 in the Red Sea resort of El-Gouna.
Midfielder Gaber and striker Kamar were doubtful for the match due to injury, but despite training separately from the team Saturday they will be ready for Sunday's match, according to the club's official website.
It will be the first official test for Zamalek under the guidance of new Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira.
After beating Cameroon's Panthère du Ndé 2-0 on aggregate in the preliminaries, Rayon Sports qualified for the next round to face Zamalek.
Zamalek is competing in the Confederation Cup directly from Round 32 as Egypt's Cup winners.
Honoring Zamalek victims
With the Egyptian League currently on hold following last month's Air Defence Stadium disaster, which saw 20 Zamalek fans killed as police used teargas to disperse fans ahead of a league game, the Whites prepared for their African campaign by staging a number of friendlies.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have approved Zamalek's request to let the players wear black armbands against Rayon Sports to honor club victims.
Ahead of the league's suspension, Zamalek were leading the table with 45 points, two clear of second-placed ENPPI.
