Egyptian league to resume on 30 March after stadium disaster
Eslam Omar, , Wednesday 18 Mar 2015

The Egyptian cabinet decided Wednesday to resume the Egyptian Premier League behind closed doors starting on 30 March, after its suspension since the Cairo Air Defence stadium disaster on 8 February.

"There will be coordination between the sports and interior ministries on the proceeding steps of the competitions," the cabinet stated after their Wednesday meeting.

The Egyptian Premier League as well as the rest of football competitions have been frozen since 8 February, when 20 Zamalek supporters were killed after police forces used teargas to disperse a crowd of fans attempting to enter the Air Defence Stadium ahead of a league match with ENPPI.

Most of the Premier League games have been played behind closed doors since over 70 Ahly fans were killed in February 2012 after being attacked by Masry fans in Port Said Stadium after a league game.
