Egypt national team to hold a closed camp this April within preparations for the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers

The Egypt Football Association (EFA) is in talks with counterparts in Africa and Asia to play a friendly with one of their national teams during the Pharaohs’ closed camp within preparations for the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in April.

After beating Equatorial Guinea 2-0 in a friendly last week, Egypt are working to continue preparing for the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers by playing another friendly after the tournament draw that is scheduled to be held on 8 April.

The EFA have sent formal requests to Ethiopia, Sudan and Jordon to face one of them during the Pharaohs closed camp, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported on Thursday.

The national team’s coming camp will be without the foreign-based players as it will be outside of FIFA's agenda.

Egypt are scheduled to face Kuwait in May and the EFA is in talks with the Gulf country to change the friendly date to 10 May instead of 8 May.

Egyptian Football Association (EFA) President Gamal Allam has promised his full support for Egypt's new coach Hector Cuper after his perfect start with the Pharaohs by beating Equatorial Guinea at Cairo's Petrosport Stadium.

"Cuper quickly managed to put his own impact on the players' performance in just five days of training. He made a perfect formation, from both local and foreign-based players, in record time," Allam said.

"The EFA board will offer full support to the national team in the coming period," he added.
