An Egyptian truck driver was killed by Houthi shelling at the Yemeni-Saudi borders on Thursday, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

Yehia Gaber Mostafa, a 43-year-old truck driver from the governorate of Gharbiya, was driving a truck carrying construction materials when he was badly injured by shelling.

The father of four was then transferred to a hospital in Yemen, but he died of his wounds.

According to Mostafa's family, Houthis fighters have refused to release his body to his co-workers.

Mostafa is the first Egyptian to die in the current outbreak of violence in Yemen.

Between 6,000 to 7,000 Egyptians currently live and work in Yemen, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Manpower and Immigration.

Egyptian authorities have asked Egyptian expats in Yemen who want to leave to exit the country through the Saudi or Omani border.

Egypt is part of a Saudi-led coalition that has launched a military campaign against the Houthi rebels that have taken control of the majority of Yemen in recent months.
