Ports closed in Safaga and Alexandria, one re-opens in Sharm El-Sheikh

Egypt's Safaga Port on the Red Sea closed on Friday, as wind approached 30 knots and waves reached 4 meters offshore, according to the Red Sea Ports Authority.

The closure was a precautionary measure, and the port would reopen once weather conditions improved, spokesman for the authority Abdel-Rahim Mostafa told state news agency MENA.

Also on Friday, the Boghazi Alexandria and Al-Dekhela ports in Alexandria on the Mediterranean Sea remained closed for the second day.

The Sharm El-Sheikh Port on the Red Sea reopened after a seven-hour closure, as authorities said that the weather had improved. It received two cruises carrying 198 tourists, with more ships expected to arrive.

On Thursday, four ports were closed in Suez, Ain Sokhna, Adabiya, Zaitiyat and Port Tawfiq.

Thursday and Friday saw a significant drop in temperature in Egypt, after a two-day heat wave hit the country on Tuesday and Wednesday.
