Garrido to remain in his post: Ahly president
Mohamad Mosselhi, Monday 27 Apr 2015
The Spanish coach is to remain with the team until the end of the season

Ahly's chairman Mahmoud Taher announced on Monday that the team's coach Juan Carlos Garrido would remain in his post, denying all reports suggesting his sacking after the team’s loss against Arab Contractors.

"Garrido will remain in his post until the end of the season," Taher told reporters after Monday's loss.

"We gave a good performance,” he said. “The players squandered many goal-scoring opportunities, but the team were not lucky during this game."

Arab Contractors stunned Ahly on Monday, in a fourth loss this season that cast doubt on Garrido's fate, but Ahly's board has renewed its confidence in the Spanish coach.

The defending champions are now third in the league table with 46 points, 11 behind Zamalek, and their chance to keep the title has been dealt a serious blow after their loss to Arab Contractors.

Ahly will have a tough mission on Saturday when they host Moroccan side Moghreb Tétouan in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 in Cairo.

The eight-times African champions need to overturn their first-leg 1-0 loss to qualify and avoid an early exit from the continental competition.

Meanwhile, the Spanish coach has said that Monday's loss had considerably dashed Ahly's chances of winning the Egyptian League.

"Our chance of winning the Egyptian League is nearly impossible," Garrido said on Monday.

"I will not resign," he however added. "If the club's board want to sack me, it is their decision."
