Egypt's Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab on Thursday inaugurated the Qostul-Ashkeet land port on the Egyptian-Sudanese border to boost trade between both countries, Aswat Masriya reported.

Transport Minister Hani Dahi initially opened the Qostul-Ashkeet land port road in August 2014.

The land port cost LE360 million.

At the ceremony on Thursday, Aswan governor Mostafa Youssri said that the port would contribute to “an increase in investment and trade between the two countries”.

Youssri also added that the land port would facilitate passenger transportation, and the “creation of new markets”.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi last visited the Sudanese capital in March, as part of a three-day tour to Sudan and Ethiopia, during which the three countries signed a pact on sharing Nile waters, in the context ofAddis Ababa building its contested Renaissance Dam upstream on the Blue Nile.

A day ahead of El-Sisi’s visit,Sudanese President Omar Bashir had hailed ties between both countries as being "unparalleled" and on their "best form".
