Two military airports in Cairo will be open for civil flights in August, minister of civil aviation Hossam Kamal announced.

Kamal said in a press conference on Saturday that Al-Qatameya and Cairo West military airports will open for civil flights.

He said Al-Qatameya will serve the new administrative capital project and the Cairo West airport will receive charter flights, along with Cairo International Airport to ease pressure.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi visited several airports on Friday and iterated the importance of facilitating civilian flights to serve the new capital and areas on the outskirts of Cairo.

Egypt announced plans for what it presented as a new administrative capital on the Cairo – Suez road at an economic development conference in March. It is expected to be completed within five to seven years.
