Bombing of electricity pylon cuts power to 14 villages in Upper Egypt

Anti-government militants have targeted security forces and economic infrastructure since the ouster of Mohamed Morsi in July 2013

Three bombs blew up an electricity pylon near Aswan in Upper Egypt on Monday, cutting power to 14 villages, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

The high voltage 220-kV pylon is located on a highway west of Aswan.

Earlier on Monday, eight explosive devices took down three high voltage electricity pylons in Beheira governorate.

Anti-government militants have targeted security forces as well as economic infrastructure, including electricity pylons, since July 2013 when Islamist president Mohamed Morsi was ousted from power.

In April, a series of bombings on electricity pylons supplying the Egyptian Media Production City (EMPC) led to a power cut that forced several private TV channels off air.
